Hindleap Warren 2025 :)

DAY ONE, Wednesday 5th March

The first thing you’ll want to know is that all of your children at happy and having fun! There has hardly been time for any worry as we have been busy with room preparation and activities. The next thing we would like to say is that not many children can put a cover on a duvet!

The start of our trip has been joyous. We've had excellent effort, teamwork and behaviour from children and perfect weather. We arrived on schedule and first toured the site. Children were excited to look around the activities and were already saying that they could see it would be an amazing trip. We went to a classroom and the children discussed all of the things they expected from the trip, including the learning attitudes they could show and the experience they would gain. They were very impressive and were able to talk a lot about resilience, creativity, teamwork and independence.

After the talk children found out who they would be in a room with and went to start to unpack. Despite their excitement, they were all helping each other out as much as possible. When we went around some of the bedrooms did look a bit like an explosion in a laundry factory, but the children tried hard and with a little help they were all set up. After this we ate lunch (thank you all for packing these).

After lunch we began our activity programmes. Children were split into four groups with Mr Berry, Mrs Balint, Mrs Cushing and Mrs Patel as group leaders. Please look through the photographs to see which activities your child went to on Day 1. They may be in a group with an adult who is not their teacher, so check through until you find out which group they are in. They will be in this group for the duration of the trip, so you will know where to look in future.

Dinner followed the activities and currently children are working on their diary entries before our last activity, a whole-group night walk. Finally for today, we will meet for storytime and some photos with our teddies. Check back tomorrow to see pictures from these, as well as the next activity photos.

Please rest assured that your children are having a great time and are feeling well settled already in the centre! They have also represented you and our school brilliantly, in particular in the way that they have celebrated and supported each other.

Have a nice evening and check back again around this time tomorrow!

DAY TWO, Thursday 6th March
Apologies for the later update today, we have been very busy!

Today has been action-packed. Children have been to four different instructor-led activities and met together at the end of the day for a campfire with the wonderful Miss King. We have really seen the very best in children today, with many of the activities involving bravery and teamwork. Children have supported each other superbly and many have achieved today things which would have seemed unimaginable just a couple of days ago. We have been climbing high on The Pentagon, tunneling through dark holes underground and wading through streams. They have swum in muddy puddles and worked together to build shelters, make fires and solve physical problems. It has been fantastic, and they are all currently settling down to sleep with new memories which will stay with forever. Children have made new friends and worked with people they've never worked with before, all with outstanding resilience.

At the beginning of the day children had some time to play in their rooms before an enormous, delicious breakfast. We fuelled up well and set off for our morning activities, which varied depending on the groups. There were two morning activities, a spectacular lunch, and two afternoon activities. The activities were:

  • The Pentagon, a high-flying set of tightrope challenges, with children harnessed and in helmets
  • Fire lighting, in which children built their own fires using sparking ferro-rods (you can google it...)
  • The Forest Adventure, a three hour trek through mud, water, muddy water and watery mud, with stops and challenges along the way
  • Obstacles, including physical challenges and exploring dark and wet underground tunnel complexes
  • Shelter build, in which children learned knots and worked in teams to build wild shelters which were then tested and rated
Due to some shared group activities and camera swapping, please check through different picture albums as you may find pictures of your children on the cameras from other groups. Mostly, Mrs Balint and Mr Berry paired up, and Mrs Cushing/Mrs O'Connor paired with Mrs Patel, however we also met for some whole-group activities too.

Your children are tired! Despite this, their attitude, behaviour and effort have been exemplary. They are an absolute credit and have undertaken each part of the day with great enthusiasm. There have been hilarious, heartwarming and memorable moments: things which they will be speaking about for years to come. It has been a truly exceptional day.

After dinner, we spent some quiet time writing diary entries and then gathered together for the campfire. This was a real highlight of the trip, with visits from Ms Hatton, Miss King and Mrs Stone who appeared to great fanfare! There really is nothing quite like a Miss King campfire. Children were singing, dancing, reminiscing and eating cookies with hot chocolate. It was a marvellous way to end our final full day at Hindleap.

Tomorrow we will be up for another big breakfast and preparing ourselves for our final activities. We will be sad to leave, but doubtless children will be looking forward to some cuddles and home comforts. They may not want to see any mud for a while...
